Stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

This little variation proposed by Joel the Troll accomplishes exactly one thing that a safety squat bar (SSB) doesn't: it hurts your friggin neck.

Other than that it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out that the mechanics here would be basically identical.

Does everyone have access to an SSB? No, but it's an invaluable piece of equipment and it only costs a few hundred bucks. I have the Titan Fitness SSB and it's amazing. Great bar for a very good price and I highly recommend it.

Plus not everyone has access to a trap bar either.

But performing weird antics by taking pieces of equipment and removing them so far from their intended usage does not make for better exercises, especially when a piece of equipment designed to accomplish that task in an optimal fashion already exists.

Bashing a nail into the wall with your power drill doesn't make you cool. It just makes you an asshole that broke an expensive drill. There's a hammer right there, dude.

I don't agree with Mark Rippetoe that the trap bar belongs in the trash. But this exercise bastardizing it certainly does! 🗑👎 Joel the Troll strikes again. The madness never ends.
